Re: SoakersForum is turning 10...
Any thoughts on gifting this forum to a like-minded commercial soak such as Faywood Hot Springs or Valley View? Burningman? If the forum were "gifted" it's dubious at best whether it would be worthwhile going forward. Managing a forum like this requires daily commitment on the part of the...

Re: SoakersForum is turning 10...
Thanks for all your effort on the site, Bruce, and especially thanks for taking it over when I realized I was underqualified to be a site admin. Between this site and the predecessor Soak.net forum it has been about 15 years in this format but times change. I wasn't really expecting the site to be r...

Re: Please delete my account/posrs
This user's only other post started a thread about the "Ojai Ecotopia" operation. They edited their post in that thread themselves to read "Please delete", so there really isn't anything of substance to delete. I did deactivate the user account per the request, but there were fol...

Re: Japan and the Far East
Can we break that into just Japan itself, and all other countries/threads there move into All Other Places. 2 reasons. Far East itself is a hard to define term, ie. most of the countries there also fall into SE Asia. Second, those countries were suffered greatly under Japanese occupation during WW2...

Re: Forum Info (Was Message regarding the Search System)
You can adjust the displayed time under "Board Preferences" in the User Control Panel, by setting the time zone you want and (currently) switching Daylight Savings Time to Off. You must have yours set to Eastern time (UTC -5) and DST On. Adjusting it still leaves the clock about 12 minutes...

Re: near klamath
I beleive all of these negative posts are from the same person--i think we all no that. I would never post on the old croak-net because of this person-s. No, this does not appear to be correct; I don't think "the_wanderer" has posted here before under another user name and I'm pretty cert...

Re: near klamath
Oh, he's been shown the Soakers Forum drain. This guy probably had some worthwhile things to say but when you can't control your tone the substance gets completely lost and, of the most concern, you drive away other forum users who would leave instead of dealing with the hostility.

Yeah. There are some other unmoderated hot springs forums that are probably a better fit for this user.mikel g wrote:I vote we ban this fool, the sooner the better.

Re: Login problem
Another issue I've seen is with the "security questions". Wasn't this how Sarah Palin's e-mail was hacked? The question was something like, "Where did you meet your husband?" Hacker guesses "Wasilla". Bingo, password revealed! The solution is to do something like this: ...

Re: Login problem
To log in to any website you need a user name and a password. Forums like this save hackers a lot of trouble because we give them user names right out in the open. So all the hacker has to do is guess the password associated with that user name and they have access to the account. People have a tend...

Re: Did you get the message regarding the search system?
I usually use Google advanced search anyway when I want to search a specific site. For example, entering in the Google search box
brings up all the posts on this site which mention Travertine.
Code: Select all

Re: Test test test - Anyone use Subscriptions?
I looked at the User Control Panels of some of the users who registered for the board prior to the conversion to phpBB3 in January 2009 and I think Mark is correct. The users who have never posted anything generally have Notify Me on Replies by Default set to Yes. This is not the case for users who ...

Re: Soakers Forum Stats
You can click on "Members" near the top right of the page and sort the roster by "Last Active" to get a sense of how many people visit the forum regularly while they are logged in. Checking it now, it's about 30 in the last 24 hours, 55 in the last 4 days or so and around 100 in ...

E-mail notifications about new private messages
We are aware that the forum software has not been sending out e-mail notifications when a forum member receives a new private message. We made an adjustment to some settings and those e-mails should now be sent. When someone sends you a PM, you should get an e-mail at the address in your profile wit...

Re: New Board Has Been implemented this weekend!
I gave this a quick look and I think it's another item for Bruce's to-do list. At the moment you can't search any of the posts made prior to the conversion. A search for Bagby now turns up one hit, Tamarah's post directly above. Here's a link for Bruce that will suggest how to create the search inde...

Re: New Board will be implemented this weekend!
It's coming in loud and clear here in Oakland, CA! Thanks, Bruce. When everyone gets a chance, you might want to check out the "User Control Panel" on the second line below the forum logo at the top left of the page. That's an expanded version of the old "Profile" where you can c...

Soakers Forum has a new owner!
Hi everyone! Last fall, we were in a situation where the exchange of information about hot springs on the Internet was becoming very difficult. We had mostly relied on the Soak.net forum, but for whatever reason, that forum was not being actively managed and most serious discussion was being submerg...
