Tell me more! If someone wants to take it over, and they have the technical expertise to manage a website based on phpbb/mysql, then I'd be happy to talk to them. If necessary, they can take the backup & phpbb code & recreate it on a new isp & we can transfer the domain name to them, or we can reassign responsibility (both site and financial) of this hosting account to them. Our hosting account expires on the 2nd of November, which is why I put the stake in the ground. In fact, it may be better to hold on to this isp until they get their feet under them, then they can transfer it as they wish.

If necessary, I can pay for the next year's hosting & get 'em started.

They will need to understand that neither Eric nor myself will sign on to admin or moderator duties. We are happy to be members, but nothing more.

PM me with details....

SF May Stay Open?!?!~!!!

Post by Casa Blanca Hot Spring »

PLEASE, Yes! Keep SF alive!

Yes, things are evolving and times are changing with (sometimes anti)social media taking over, but popularity seems to be no indication of QUALITY. In fact, in many cases, the opposite is true.

There simply is nothing like Soakers Forum out there, period, and we hope it continues.

We're willing to do all we can to make that happen.

Bruce and all,

Thanks for all you've done. There was a lot of work with little return - especially the last few years. I have enjoyed all the posts even though I haven't done much posting myself. If the Forum is picked up by someone else I'll be sure to follow it or find something on social media that I find as valuable (doubtful). As you fade off to the sunset, may it be a sunset as seen from your favorite soak!

Thanks Offvgo!

Currently, someone has expressed interesting in taking over the forum. Let's see how things play out over this next week. If that happens, it'll be interesting to watch as new life is poured into SoakersForum, or ???. Who knows what is to happen in the near term future.

Could any of the Admin send me some quick stats on avg bandwidth usage and total site size ? I run a server with several phpbb sites and I'm about to upgrade my server and would be interested in hosting SF pro bono. I'm currently traveling but will check back in a few days.

Sad. I hope Soaker Dan or the outer interested party if there is one can keep the site going, at least for a while.
I would be willing to make a contribution if helpful as I did with Soakers Bible before it went away.

I'm on many of the HS Facebook sites and find them a weak substitute for what's here.
Sites for individual Hot Springs tend to be useful.

It is the diversification of media that makes it tough to follow specific interests. Pages such as those in social sites render this forum (and others like it) obsolete which is perhaps why readership & contributions have significantly dropped off in the last few years.

That said, I'm a member of several Facebook hotsprings groups as well, and have been added as admin on one.

SoakersForum will eventually cease to exist, much like special interest boards before it. I struggle with the desire to maintain the information for the general public for the foreseeable future, but without the reoccurring costs (or very minimum costs) and maintenance/security headaches.

be nice to see the wealth of information here continue even if its closed to read only.

Dan, thanks for posting the Announcement! For some reason, I don't see it as a highlighted, unread post, so I stumbled onto it by accident.
Here's a link in case others missed it as well: Dan's Announcement
