Idea for uploading photos
I should hasten to point out that I personally, don't watch, or enjoy either of those programs, except for educational purposes. Their adult themes are way too "modern" for someone with a cardiac condition.
Every year at renewal time, I ask DISH Network why I can't have a customized programming package without any sports or religious channels. Every year they ignore me.
How did we get here from the original subject "Ideas for uploading photos?"

Just what we need, another sports channel.
Doesn't ESPN show a lot of re-runs packaged as a fast forward game? I seem to recall watching that channel somewhere and noticing the game was 1) a game played a month ago & 2) it seemed to be over very quicky. I asked someone and they told me what it was called.
Why would someone want to watch an old game in fast mode if they weren't a coach? You already know who won.

Via our humongo antenna & rotor, we have.. uh, let's count em.... one, two... nevermind. 6 channels. (I ran out of fingers on the first hand) When we are forced to get a set top box to convert those new-fangled dig-it-all signals to our old Sony 27" triniton, I understand we'll have more channels but will need to get a UHF antenna & will need to be pretty precise aiming it to get the beam.... hee hee.jrbarber wrote:...

About the only cable channel we'd spend much time on would be the Discovery channel - that is, mostly Mythbusters. That's what I watch when I'm on the road for the company. We watch no sports, nor anything remotely religious so having cable/satellite would be 110 channels of nothing to watch for 100 bucks a month. Not worth it to us so we do the cheap 'ol scot thing.
Jim, you remembered the original topic! Kudos to you. Methinks it morphed via bandwidth babble...

In this thread, 15 posts appeared before 'page 2' was started. I assume administrators have set the max number at '15' in some box of options?
Is there any way to 'manually' break a thread into pages? That wouldn't be too much editorship, would it? For conversations, fewer posts per page makes it too choppy. For massive photo files, it would just be more readable.

Yeah, I was thinking 15 was a little too low. Increased to 40 posts per page.mikel g wrote:In this thread, 15 posts appeared before 'page 2' was started. I assume administrators have set the max number at '15' in some box of options?
Eric
P.S. One offhand comment making an analogy between dial-up and TV antennas and look what happened. Good grief.
Yea... And the heck of it is, 3 of the moderators are contributing to the off-topic-ness of the thread. (Me included)Eric wrote: ...

So if we have 40 posts per page, wouldn't that just make each view longer? Seems to me it should be less than, not more than.

Are you talking about the time it takes to download the thread? If someone added 20 more pictures in the 16th comment on the thread, then yes it would extend the download time, but you seldom see any new pictures added to a thread after the first few comments.BNMac wrote:So if we have 40 posts per page, wouldn't that just make each view longer? For cases where there are a whole bunch of pictures and then a lot of comments, yes, it would be quicker to just click on Page 2 and read only comments 16-30. But, once you have seen all the pictures, you can do as Greyfalcon suggests and hit your browser's stop button to read all the text.
If 40 posts per page causes problems I can always change it back. We do have to go by a one size fits all posts rule though. We can't have 40 post per page limits in some threads and 15 per page in others.

To answer Kim's question a long way up the page, I believe we are wired for cable modem in this neighbor hood. I cut through ours when I put in the studio. Wasn't using it anyway. I did ask permission first.
And with dial up this seris of posts loads very quickly for me. No large photos. If this thread continuos then I will consider it an experiment in progress for us dial-up users on how fast text loads here. Always a lab rat!!!
