Hey don't let a little bad news slow you down. Whistlers is over rated, get outta town.
I did a little clean-up and I've heard from 2 other people who'v been up to Sloquet since my visit. Both claiming to have carried out more than they brought. The last 3 week-ends have been on the wet side which would have kept most of the crazies away. If only a few good people did some clean up it should not be all that bad. Your gonna have good weather tomorrow, and the best time to hit it mid week, it'll be nice, go for it...
Un-fortunately I don't have mileage for you. I can tell you it's about 45 minutes past the entrance to Skookumchuck to the turn off for Sloquet H/s.
I have a few points for you, Past the village of Ska'tin(Skookumchuck), watch for school zone(15kph), further down a small bridge over Frank creek, somewhere in here is the turn off for Port Douglas- pass it up- stay on the main road, right., a larger bridge over the Lilloett river(you may see native fishing poles pointing out into the river here, might even be fishing), after crossing this bridge a "T" junction in the road, hang left toward Harrison lake. The book says 4.2klm(2.6 mi) to the turn up Sloquet from the "T" junction, Zero Odometer maybe. shortly a few derilect homes. Next a large base area for the Kiewet(sp) group on the right- large construction site, mechanics, mobile trailers, etc... A klm more you should see a smallish bridge over the Sloquet creek. (As I recall the sign was knocked down stating/naming the creek crossing on one side of the bridge(yourside) but the sign was still up on the southside coming north). Either way there is a large junction on the north side(Pemberton side) of the bridge going uphill. Start up and keep to the left then follow this for aprox. 9 klm. Your now following new hydro power lines, around the 6 klm mark you should see a cement bridge crossing over the north arm of Sloquet creek. Cross this and carry on for aprox. 3 more klm. Watch on your left for signage, Sloquet creek recreation area,Hotsprings, natural fish habitat do not disturb, etc... follow that fork to the campsites, park. Hike down behind the large boulders placed on the trailhead. Leanto of tarp at the bottom to help keep things dry, some hooks to hang things.
Sorry Ben, I'm rushing, but I gotta go to work and they've taken away my internet priviledges at work. Hope this helps you...
Ben, the local Whistler library should have a copy of the book, you could photo-copy the required pages or a local book store make mental(pencil) notes.

Pick up a Backroads Mapbook in Whistler or Pemberton, the springs are marked (!) on map 24. Likely it's $20 you weren't planning on spending, but if it's the difference between going and not going, it's still a cheap investment.

MADE IT to Sloquet today...and WOW what a long, spectacular drive. I will post a trip report in a week or so, when I get my photos uploaded and updated. Great trip, my first time to Sloquet and I was REALLY impressed! Packed out quite a bit of other people's trash, but that's to be expected.

Another Happy Visitor to Beautiful British Columbia. Glad to see you enjoyed Benjamin.

Off subject :::
Hey you don't happen to drive a Lexus SUV do you? I was following a Lexus with Texas plates the other day through Vancouver. Then a couple miles further a vehicle with New Mexico plates. Thought how odd was that ...

That IS strange! No, we were in a rental car with BC plates.

I tried posting a VERY detailed trip report with lots of pics, but for the first time on this forum I couldn't link to my photos...kept getting an error message. I sent Kim a PM but haven't gotten a response yet. As soon as we get that resolved, I'll post the trip report.

Ben, my apologies..I did see your PM and I thought I had responded, but I suspect it was a case of "postus interrruptus" as my reply didn't get sent. I'm sure Bruce can elaborate better than I on this subject, and I know you've had success posting pics before. I'm not sure if Picasa is similar to Flickr, but a couple things to check -do your pics have the .jpg extension? Were you able to grab the photo's URL and copy/paste it into your forum post? And did you add the IMG tags before and after the photo URL?

To prevent "postus interrruptus" I highlight the post (rt click) and save it before I post as that seens to happen to me on this and other forms. The when it doesn't go I paste it back in a new reply box and send it.

It saves me from re-typing it all back in..again..

Post away!!!

Ben, post your trip report in the Test Posts category complete with broken links, then I can look at the links and the files you are trying to link to. Then when the post is ready for prime time, we'll move it into this section.

Plan, sound like? B^)

Jeff- I'll have to remember to do that! and I also need to basically slow down a microsecond or two to ensure a post makes it!

Kim, you can't slow down, you live in Cal-i-for-ne, where the norm is 20mph+ over the speed limit!!!
