Hey don't let a little bad news slow you down. Whistlers is over rated, get outta town.
I did a little clean-up and I've heard from 2 other people who'v been up to Sloquet since my visit. Both claiming to have carried out more than they brought. The last 3 week-ends have been on the wet side which would have kept most of the crazies away. If only a few good people did some clean up it should not be all that bad. Your gonna have good weather tomorrow, and the best time to hit it mid week, it'll be nice, go for it...
Un-fortunately I don't have mileage for you. I can tell you it's about 45 minutes past the entrance to Skookumchuck to the turn off for Sloquet H/s.
I have a few points for you, Past the village of Ska'tin(Skookumchuck), watch for school zone(15kph), further down a small bridge over Frank creek, somewhere in here is the turn off for Port Douglas- pass it up- stay on the main road, right., a larger bridge over the Lilloett river(you may see native fishing poles pointing out into the river here, might even be fishing), after crossing this bridge a "T" junction in the road, hang left toward Harrison lake. The book says 4.2klm(2.6 mi) to the turn up Sloquet from the "T" junction, Zero Odometer maybe. shortly a few derilect homes. Next a large base area for the Kiewet(sp) group on the right- large construction site, mechanics, mobile trailers, etc... A klm more you should see a smallish bridge over the Sloquet creek. (As I recall the sign was knocked down stating/naming the creek crossing on one side of the bridge(yourside) but the sign was still up on the southside coming north). Either way there is a large junction on the north side(Pemberton side) of the bridge going uphill. Start up and keep to the left then follow this for aprox. 9 klm. Your now following new hydro power lines, around the 6 klm mark you should see a cement bridge crossing over the north arm of Sloquet creek. Cross this and carry on for aprox. 3 more klm. Watch on your left for signage, Sloquet creek recreation area,Hotsprings, natural fish habitat do not disturb, etc... follow that fork to the campsites, park. Hike down behind the large boulders placed on the trailhead. Leanto of tarp at the bottom to help keep things dry, some hooks to hang things.
Sorry Ben, I'm rushing, but I gotta go to work and they've taken away my internet priviledges at work. Hope this helps you...
Ben, the local Whistler library should have a copy of the book, you could photo-copy the required pages or a local book store make mental(pencil) notes.
