Lussier Hot Spring - Jul. 2007

After the Fairmont Indian Baths, my next destination was Lussier Hot Spring. It was an easy day's ride to the south. Lussier is a free natural hot spring, but it is in a Provincial Park, well-marked, and only a 5 minute walk from a road. The inevitable result is crowds and rules. Nudity and alcohol are forbidden. People seem to openly flaunt the alcohol ban, but very few people soak nude there. It's just too crowded and it's visible from the road.

Here is a view of the hot spring from the road. Most people don't notice that the hot spring is visible from the road. This view is from about 200 meters east of the parking area. It's not marked, but park wardens surely know where to stop to spy on the hot spring.

Here is a view closer to the pools. The upper pool is way too hot for me. I could stay in the second pool for a minute or two. My favorite pools were the lowest ones that mix with the river.

I saw this guy cross the road just before I got to the hot spring.

I stopped briefly in the middle of the afternoon to take pictures. Then I went into the park to set up my campsite. I met a woman at the campground who gave me a ride back to the hot spring that evening and again in the morning. I'm happy about that because it was 5 steep km from the hot spring to the campsite. The evening soak was crowded but congenial. The early morning soak was much less crowded. Only 3 people there. I soaked nude in the morning, but it was a risky thing to do.

Lussier is a great hot spring but it's too crowded for my tastes.

Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, I think it's a great spot to get together and chew the fat a bit on the tubs available in a given area!

I just got back from a camping trip westbound across Canada and stopped a few days in Lussier, BC around July 11th. Ah, and yes, they do shoo you away if you try to camp at the top of the springs. I should have gone in the extra 5-8 miles to White Swan campgrounds but my tires were not in good shape enough to be further down the gravel road. Ha, had an awesome time anyhow!

Cheers,

Richard

Update 2010 July ....

Lussier is still the same and is a beautiful place to soak right on the river. The gradual walkway down to the site from the parking lot is great for those who don't want to do stairs. Like it's been said before, this site is in a provincial park, so there is no nudity, and no animals allowed near the pools, and no overnight camping in the parking lot. For those who don't want to pay for the provincial park (although it is a fantastic site), you can always backtrack up the curving FSR for a few km's and try some of the side roads to camp off the beaten path (Just remember to use good wilderness camping guidelines and bury your human waste please!). Judging by all the fire rings we came across on the side roads, wilderness camping seems to be prevalent in that neck of the woods.

The town of Canal Flats is north of the site on the main highway, and has 2 gas stations for those who need it. One gas station is on the main highway, and the other is in the middle of Canal Flats itself. Canal Flats also has a small food store, which is coupled with that gas station that is in the middle of town.

Approx. Co-ord's for Lussier Hot Springs: N 50 08 00.6 W 115 34 25.4
