Hi All---I have drank the water from Gold Bug HS for around 20 years. As mentioned it gives one the overwhelming urge to go back for more...........
13 below 0 (zero) in Central Idaho this morning and the forecast is for COLD tonight. It is interesting to check the temp at Stanley Idaho, one of the coldest places in Idaho. www.sawtoothcamera.com Polar fleece underware tomorrow.
Kim---I bet it still feels warmer up here than on the coast as it is damp cold there. Our cold is a dry cold which is much warmer than wet cold??????????????????????????????? I think it is all cold.. :D S

I agree Skndip- Cold is cold, and wind really does make it colder!

Getting back to the original topic, I use to drink the water from Montecito Hot Springs all the time when we lived there- because of the sulphur content our skin always seemed to smell like eggs! I've also drank from the sources at Little and Big Caliente and from Spence in NM .

Drinking spring waters

Postby soakergirl » Mon Dec 29, 2008 8:01 pm

I drank some tea that someone made from the springs at Travertine - wasn't really impressed. The tap water in Desert Hot Springs, although a different source than the hot waters, is delicious! (they don't even have to treat it - probably the only municipal water source in the US that's untreated).

But I will say - don't drink the water at Mercey Hot Springs if you're a woman and pregnant. (taps, tubs and showers). It was bottled and sold as an abortificant back in the day. Was the cure for the Hollywood set back then. This was discovered by the Basque sheep farmer that owned the place. When the sheep drank from the springs, they lost their lambs...

Interesting, you don't have a break down of the water handy?

Mercey Water

Postby soakergirl » Fri Jan 02, 2009 9:20 pm

Here's the analysis:
http://merceyhotsprings.com/analysis.html

However, that was done years ago. They've since drilled a new well, hoping for a fresh water source, but found more hot water - this time with methane. (I think Larry draws off the methane and uses to run some things - he's very handy that way!). Now that they have an additional hot water source, which they pump up to the springs; not sure what the water analysis is now.

Well, Mercey is totally off-grid - so a free natural gas source saves them $$ on propane! (just don't drink the water!)

I was raised on spring water that came into a vat we set up from an 'ole vineyard..our place is still on the American River , Hwy 50 in "middle' California...just before So.Lk Tahoe. (we bought it in1928)
Of course...if I opened up the screen to clean it out in the spring thaw..there was usually a dead rat or other creatures that had stopped by for a drink...
I figure that the more germs I got, the better off later in life I would be....LOL
as it stands now...@52..still have'nt been near enough (bad water..that is...) to kick the bucket :D
and so, my dear member's I am here today to add my "two cent's worth"...
I will drink whatever somebody want's me to try...but, that does not include beer and other stuff...I'm really just a cheap date...and I get's that sad, pitiful and ugly look when I tried drinking ..LOL
I had a job where I was always responsible...I called up my boss (of 7 1/2 years) and said "I'm sorry, but I'm calling in drunk")they came and got me and deposited me in the arms of a "god like" 'good look'in doctor...mmmm
well, back to this thread...
I really want to taste the H.S. at "Woody's" again...that place is pure heaven to me...EVERYTHING about that place is pure magic....and I wish I had a bottle of it to look at when I'm tired of working...so I can remember what we all seen to live for....Hot Spring Fever!!! Yeah!! :D
Well, I'm off to the local rec supply store for another big topo map...there all over the walls here in my office.
just call me "map margot"
I grew up wanting to play with my brothers, and I hated the words:"because I said so", "and no, you can't go...." anybody remember your childhood and that type of quote?? anywho....
thanks to all of you,
I always have alot of fun visiting here....cheers!
bye

I have never drank water from a hot spring. Frankly, I haven't been to a hot spring where I would *want* to drink the water untreated/unfiltered.

I've seen folks bring gallon jugs to collect the water from the source before it enters the pools. I'd drink it... after it cools down a bit. Or perhaps I should bring tea bags next trip up! We cooked eggs in the outflow of McCredie one year - didn't wait quite long enough so they were verrrry soft boiled eggs. A little to soft for me. But still. MMmmm.
